Clean and Store
1. Hand Washing Only (No Dishwasher!)
Both PLA and PETG are sensitive to heat. PLA, in particular, has a low heat tolerance (around 60°C/140°F), meaning it can warp or deform in hot water. PETG is slightly more heat-resistant (up to 80°C/176°F) but can still become brittle if exposed to excessive heat.
👉 Never put them in the dishwasher, as the high heat and prolonged exposure to hot water will damage them.
2. Use Lukewarm Water & Mild Soap
-
Fill a sink or bowl with lukewarm (not hot) water.
-
Add mild dish soap (avoid harsh detergents or bleach).
-
Use a soft sponge or dish brush to gently clean the cutters, paying attention to small crevices.
👉 Avoid using abrasive scrubbers, as they can scratch the surface and create areas where bacteria can grow.
3. Remove Dough Residue with a Soft Brush
If dough or icing gets stuck in detailed areas of the cutter:
-
Use a soft-bristled toothbrush or a food-safe brush to scrub away residue.
-
For very stubborn bits, let the cutter soak in soapy water for a few minutes before scrubbing.
4. Rinse Thoroughly
-
Run cool water over the cutter to remove all soap residue.
-
Make sure no water is trapped in any crevices.
5. Dry Completely Before Storing
-
Air-dry completely on a clean towel or drying rack.
-
To speed up drying, pat with a lint-free cloth or paper towel.
-
Ensure they are 100% dry before storage to prevent mold or bacterial growth.
Storing Your PLA and PETG Cookie Cutters
1. Keep Away from Heat and Direct Sunlight
Since PLA has a lower heat resistance, storing it near ovens, dishwashers, or in direct sunlight can cause warping. PETG is more heat-resistant but still should not be exposed to excessive heat for long periods.
👉 Store in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
2. Use Airtight Containers for Protection
To keep them clean and free from dust or kitchen debris:
-
Store in a sealed plastic bin, airtight container, or a dedicated storage box.
-
If stacking, place a soft cloth or parchment paper between cutters to prevent scratches.
3. Label and Organize for Easy Access
-
If you have multiple cutters, consider sorting by theme, size, or use.
-
Use dividers or small bags to keep them separated and prevent tangling.
4. Avoid Excessive Pressure on PLA Cutters
PLA is more brittle than PETG and can crack under pressure. When storing:
-
Do not store under heavy objects that could cause breakage.
-
If stacking, place the lightest cutters on top.
